Brentford vs Bournemouth Prediction Match Overview

As part of this weekend’s Premier League predictions, following a brief interlude for the cup competitions, in-form Brentford host an out-of-form Bournemouth in a match that will take both teams up to the halfway point in this season’s Premier League campaign. Brentford have taken 11 points from their last five games, a run which has seen them
defeat both Manchester City and Liverpool and has catapulted them into the top half of the table. As a result, Brentford are perhaps viewed as unlikely outsiders for European qualification given that they seem to have moved well past their poor run of form which interrupted an excellent start to the season including a superb 4-0 victory over Manchester United in their second match. The mood around the club which was already excellent has been bolstered by the news that manager Thomas Frank has signed a new contract until 2027, and the club will feel confident that they can push on and secure a top-half finish.

Bournemouth on the other hand are in trouble. An impressive 3-0 victory over fellow strugglers Everton would seem to represent a false dawn, given that they lost their following three fixtures against Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Manchester United. It wasn’t so much that they lost those games – although they perhaps would’ve targeted a positive result at home against Crystal Palace – it’s that they failed to score. Following their honeymoon period under Gary O’Neil following Scott Parker’s sacking, it seems that the new manager bounce is well and truly over, and now the hard work begins.

Brentford vs Bournemouth Prediction Analysis

Bournemouth Leak Goals Away From Home

At home, Bournemouth are difficult to break down and have conceded a respectable 10 goals in 9 matches. Away from home, this is a different story. 29 goals in 9 games represents the worst defensive record away from home by some distance. While it’s true that Liverpool were responsible for 9 of those in a single game, they would still be conceding well over two goals per game away from home notwithstanding that particular rout. This is in no way intended to be a disparaging analysis of the club, it’s simply the reality of the division they are in – they don’t appear to be up to the task of keeping it tight in Premier League away matches. So what does this mean for this particular match? Brentford are in-form and are averaging two goals per game at home, and this honestly just seems like the wrong fixture at this point in time for the south coast club. Brentford press aggressively high up the pitch starting with both Mbeumo and Toney, and once they turn the ball over they are capable of exploiting the space and creating high-quality chances – it’s one of the primary reasons they are in such excellent form at the moment.

Brentford Start Fast

To compound the problems we’ve analysed for Bournemouth in the previous paragraph, Brentford are known as fast starters and their press has been likened to a swarm. Once they do this, it’s very difficult for teams who are perhaps lacking in confidence coming into such a match to find their rhythm and gain a foothold in the game and this leads to mistakes and inevitably chances. It’s not so much that Brentford are invincible at home – they are a tough proposition and have only lost to Arsenal but for perspective they’ve won four from nine games – it’s that when a side like Bournemouth with a terrible away record is coming to the GTech Arena low on confidence, they’re likely to have a rough ride from the opening minute. We’ve seen this with a Manchester United arriving low on confidence, and we’ve seen it with Liverpool arriving low on confidence. There is perhaps the possibility of Bournemouth reverting to more of a long-ball approach by opting to start with Kieffer Moore in an attempt to bypass the Brentford press altogether, but with Brentford playing three at the back and generally not susceptible to high balls – as evidenced by the relatively poor showings by teams who relied too much on crosses to create chances – this would be considered to be a hopeful approach more than anything.

Beat the Bookmaker Brentford vs Bournemouth Prediction

We expect that Bournemouth will sit in and attempt to play on the counter, and they’re not likely to have the quality to beat the Brentford press by playing out from the back so that necessitates them attempting to frustrate Brentford and hoping that they can find the likes of Solanke and Billing in space and can support them with numbers. We foresee Brentford making their breakthrough at some point in the first half and perhaps adding another before closing the game out and coasting to a relatively comfortable victory that will leave Bournemouth in deeper trouble.
